Dear Salisbury Elementary Families,
Happy New Year! We hope you enjoyed a restful holiday season filled with special moments, time with loved ones, and the joy of Christmas, for those who celebrate. As we begin 2026, we are looking forward to welcoming our students back and settling into the comfort of familiar routines, procedures, and learning together.
🌟 Getting Back into the Groove
Over the coming weeks, our focus at school will be on getting back into the groove by revisiting expectations and reinforcing positive behaviours across all settings. We will be spending intentional time reviewing our ABCDs with students:
- Act Safe
- Be Kind
- Cooperate
- Do Your Best
These shared expectations help create a safe, caring, and predictable learning environment for everyone. Your support at home in talking about the ABCDs and what they look like in daily school life makes a big difference and is greatly appreciated.
As part of this reset, we are also placing an emphasis on on-time arrival. Students are expected to arrive at school prior to 8:25 a.m. for O Canada, as learning begins immediately afterward. Even arriving 10–15 minutes late can impact a student’s learning and the flow of learning for others in the classroom.
We understand mornings can be busy, especially in winter, and we truly appreciate your support in helping students arrive on time and ready for the day. Working together, we hope to see improved punctuality as we move through the second term.
🍎 Breakfast Program Routines
We are so grateful for our Breakfast Program and the wonderful volunteers who help ensure students start their day nourished and ready to learn. As we return to routines, we will be reminding students that:
- Students should go to breakfast as soon as they arrive at school
- We use patient, respectful manners while waiting in line
- We show appreciation to our volunteers
- Students are encouraged to take only what they can eat
These expectations help the program run smoothly and ensure breakfast remains a positive and welcoming start to the day for all students. Having a quick conversation at home about patience, gratitude, and making thoughtful choices at breakfast is always helpful.
❄️ Cold Weather & Indoor Recess
As you may have noticed, we are expecting very cold temperatures at the beginning of the week. Please ensure students are dressed appropriately for winter weather with warm coats, hats, mittens, and boots.
On days when temperatures are too cold, we will be holding indoor recesses. While we know that fresh air and outdoor play are always preferred (teachers feel the same way!), safety must come first. It can be helpful to have a quick chat with your child about:
- Using calm bodies and voices indoors
- Being respectful of shared spaces
- Following adult directions during indoor play
These conversations help set students up for success and make indoor recess more enjoyable for everyone.
📚 Looking Ahead
This week, our primary focus will be on re-establishing routines, procedures, and expectations to support a smooth and positive transition back to school. Academic learning will continue, of course, but building strong foundations now helps ensure a successful term ahead.
We have many exciting things planned for January, and more updates will be shared in a future email.
Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support. We are so grateful to work alongside such a caring school community and look forward to a wonderful start to 2026 together.
Warm regards,
Denise & Angela
