Family update Salisbury Elementary

We had an amazing first week back! Some highlights include but are not limited to;

  • We welcomed 308 students, numerous family members, 45 staff and many academic paraprofessionals to our building on the first 4 days of school
  • The playground was a buzzing place, with older students playing with and showing younger students how to play safely!
  • Students meeting all their teachers and practicing routines and procedures, so many smiling faces and summer stories!
  • Organizing and improving our end of day dismissal, by Friday all buses were loaded, and the pick-up/ daycare students were dismissed at 2:30! Thank you all for being patient and helping make the end of day changes run as smoothly as possible. Tags on student bookbags are so educators know where students need to be on particular days ( bus icon has the number of the bus, car is for students being picked up and sneakers are for daycares).
  • Dan Killam (Dan’s Damages) gifted our staff and students with cases of Tissue and hundreds of STAEDTLER pencils, THANK YOU DAN!!!!

Things to know for the coming week

Monday September 9 (weather permitting) we will have our first Fire Drill at 9:45am. Educators have been reviewing the Fire Drill procedures with all students, will have the first of 3 full school drills on Monday. Please encourage your child to tell you all about how we leave the building in an emergency, this will help them remember the process.

Wednesday September 11 we will have student assemblies, to practice routines and procedures for gathering as a full school. We will be discussing behaviour expectations and beginning to learn the school song.

Thursday September 12      5:00-6:30 pmStudents are encouraged to bring their family to school for a meet and greet, BBQ and to enjoy some social time on our playground. There will be face painting and other activities, come out and meet our staff and have a hot dog sponsored by the Salisbury Lions club.

                                                           Notes from the office

Please be sure to send in at least one complete change of clothes with students, include socks, underwear a t-shirt and pants or shorts. Accidents do happen and sometimes mud jumps off the ground and lands on students. Having extra clothes at school will reduce the need for parents to come to school to drop off items. Dirty or wet items will be returned in a student’s backpack in the event of an accident.

Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for our Breakfast Club and Wednesday Pizza Mill days. More information and sign-up opportunities will be available at the September 12 BBQ and meet and greet.

< >Breakfast volunteers are needed once per week from 7:15-8:45 Pizza Mill lunch volunteers are needed every Wednesday from 11:30-12:30 ( approx.). We will need at least 6 volunteers each Wednesday to keep this program running. Parent School Support Committee (PSSC)

The PSSC is a group of parents and community members who work in an encouraging advisory and collaborative fashion with the school Principal and staff to ensure the best possible learning opportunities for students of their school.

Student drop off;

Please remember duty starts at 7:40 am, students are not supervised until that time and cannot be dropped off at school before 7:40am. To ensure the safety of all students, drivers of cars in the drop off zone are to remain in the vehicle. Mrs. Hoogendyk or Ms. O’Blenis will assist students in safely getting out of vehicles and across the crosswalk to the playground. Our educators use every opportunity to make connections with students and to help foster independence, daily drop off is a great place for this to happen. Drivers are asked to help quicken the process by remining in the vehicle and having all bookbags and lunch cans available beside the student exiting the car.
